Meet Alex

I’ve worked in sixth form education for over 20 years, including 11 years as a Head of Sixth Form, supporting hundreds of young people through the opportunities and challenges of Years 11 to 13.

Over that time, I’ve seen that there’s no single formula for success. Some students need help pushing towards their very best grades; others need to build confidence, get organised, manage pressure or find their motivation. Every student is different, and that’s what makes mentoring so rewarding.

I created Sixth Form Strategy because I believe every student deserves someone in their corner - someone who gets to know them, understands what they want to achieve and helps them make the most of their potential.

Mentoring v Tutoring

Tutoring is not the same as mentoring

Tutoring focuses primarily on a subject. Mentoring focuses on the student.

A tutor helps students understand a particular subject, address knowledge gaps and prepare for exams. Mentoring takes a broader view, supporting students with organisation, motivation, confidence, wellbeing, decision-making and future planning. Sometimes, the support a student needs isn't another lesson. It's guidance to help them navigate Sixth Form with greater confidence and purpose.

Why weekly support?

Consistency matters.

Rather than waiting until a student is struggling, weekly mentoring creates an ongoing relationship where small issues can be addressed before they become bigger ones. Goals can be reviewed, progress celebrated and plans adapted as circumstances change.

Across two years of Sixth Form, students will face different challenges at different times. The support they need in September of Year 12 is unlikely to be the same support they need six months before their A Levels. The Weekly Mentoring Membership is designed to evolve with them.

What parents and students say

"I found Alex to have a wonderful ability to provide the correct support tailored specifically to my child...whilst continually keeping me in the loop. I would highly recommend Alex."

Parent of Year 13 student

"Alex as a mentor is patient and very encouraging. She was able to break down my course materials and help me understand whilst developing my critical thinking. I feel very fortunate having Alex as my mentor because she motivated me and helped my confidence in achieving my A Levels."

Year 13 student

"Working with Alex has made me feel much less overwhelmed about my A levels... She has provided me with structure and guidance when writing my personal statement by being encouraging and supportive and encouraging me to do my best."

YEAR 13 Student

"Alex has been absolutely brilliant with our daughter. Her sessions are structured, engaging and relevant. She is professional but also has such a natural rapport with teenagers. We've seen a real boost in her confidence and direction. I can't recommend her highly enough."

Parent of Year 12 student

"Alex's support has been invaluable in helping my son to secure a place to study International Management at the University of Warwick. The more questions we asked, the more apparent it became that Alex had extensive experience and knowledge of everything related to sixth form and the university application process."
